marvel has announced and released pics of a new captain america coming down the pike at the beginning of next year. i had my own thoughts on who should be the next one to don the star and stripes, however.

all along, what with how impressed steve rogers was with luke cage in early "new avengers" issues, i had the feeling that cage was being groomed to be the next captain america. with the new pics released, however, this is obviously not the case - with bullet-proof skin, what the hell would cage need a gun or knife for? but, i was interested in creating my own luke cage captain america update, so here he is. i gave him a 70's-style "ringer" tee shirt (to harken back to his origins...) of captain america's duds, and some cargo pants and army boots (to bring along some of his contemporary sensibilities). in addition, i wasn't sure if he'd have the need to hide his identity, since he hasn't so far, but might for the sake of his wife and kid. this is the version that DOESN'T need to. maybe i'll do a sketch of his head with a mask on for the version that does need to.
