playing favorites, part 2: the savage dragon

i decided that i should start with my absolute favorite characters with this little blog, and after spider-man came the savage dragon.

erik larsen was one of my favorite artists to ever put pencil to paper and render spider-man. his art has always been so kinetic... while some people made spidey seem somewhat still, larsen's rendition was filled with energy, due in part to his love of forced-perspective - where you exaggerate the size of things in relation to one-another in order to convey a sense of movement and 3-dimensionality.

well, when he announced that he was leaving marvel with some of the other biggest names in comic-book-dom to form image comics, i was highly anticipating his next venture. i can't remember a time in my life where the hobby was as exciting as the inception of image. i was even excited about youngblood (how i look back on those days and laugh...)

if you told me that erik was going to be the only guy still doing his original book nearly 16 years later, i would only be surprised that the other guys didn't stick with it. i'm happy to be a long-time collector of the savage dragon, and to that end, here's today's scribble.
